The Padina coffee table explores the metaphysical nature of things. It questions the expected characteristics of materials, and provokes naive surprise by demonstrating the opposite. Its design is characterised by architectural forms made of solid parts with expressive textures. The name Padina means "dent" in Croatian. It defines the interplay of the visual elements of the design: the stone slab is pressed into the wooden worktop. Its irregular shape is dictated by the desire to minimise production residues. The discarded stone fragments are given a new lease of life and an original impressed cut. This effect is achieved by hand-cutting the wood, showing its softness and giving it new and unexpected properties.
